| Course Description:
Problem and compulsive gambling is an ever increasing issue in our society and yet, as one of the more silent addictions, most practitioners know very little about it. In this four-week introductory course, a variety of topics will be covered including: distinguishing between various types of gambling including problem and compulsive gambling; prevalence rates, clinical definitions of pathological gambling (i.e., the DSMIV diagnostic criteria); assessment; screening instruments; and prevention approaches. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the National Gambling Impact Study Commission and some of its work. This four week course requires 8 hours of work over its duration. |
