Substance Use Issues in Gay and Lesbian Clients: Considerations for Effective Practice

Course Description:

This continuing education workshop will explore the risk factors for the development of problems with substance use involved in the struggle to develop a healthy identity in a society which has historically pathologized different sexual orientations. Interventions that are both sensitive to these issues as well as affirmative in working with people at various stages in their lives will be presented. This course is designed for a wide audience and in general will not exceed the graduate level in difficulty of material. The discussion material and information will be given via a class WWW page, with more in depth on-line information found through links to other web sites.

This five week course requires 10 hours of work over its duration.
