Marijuana Trends: Research and Implications Of The Impact On Society

Course Description:

This course will discuss the history and trends of marijuana use in American society and the implications this has on working with individuals who use marijuana. The content will include information regarding past and current research regarding how marijuana affects the user and their families. The course will also include information regarding current perception of harm of marijuana us in the general population, marijuana subculture and the challenges that marijuana use presents for individuals who interact with people who abuse marijuana. The course will provide a brief historical presentation of marijuana and some of the research findings that are offering new directions for prevention, intervention, treatment approaches and recovery. Special attention will be given to adolescent marijuana abuse, and trends in marijuana used for medical purposes. Students will be given the opportunity of posting questions about marijuana that they may wish to find more information about. Numerous links and web resources will also be provided to allow students the opportunity to continue professional development regarding trends in marijuana abuse prevention, intervention and treatment research. Materials will be processed through group discussion, written assignments, and forums. This course is designed for a wide audience and in general includes introductory materials.

This four week course requires 8 hours of work over its duration.
