Betty Jean Singletary, BA, LCDP
Betty Jean Singletary, BS, LCDP is the Program Development/Cultural Issues Administrator, for the Addiction Technology Transfer Center of New England (ATTC-NE); affiliated with Brown University’s Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. Betty comes to the ATTC-NE after a 9 year history of employment in an opiate abuse treatment program. Her experience as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional, which included 2 years as a Senior Counselor, has been a major influence in her continuing interest in the issue of substance abuse treatment and relapse prevention.
While working in the treatment field, Betty came to be acutely aware of the many interrelated factors that influence the course of a treatment protocol. Treatment providers are uniquely poised to utilize methodologies that maximize treatment outcomes. The failure of the therapeutic staff to incorporate proven treatment strategies could result in a less than optimal treatment outcome.
It was also obvious that while individual clinicians were critical, to adequate provision of services, there were also limitations to the impact of their activities; without the support of the supervisory staff. There is a clear need for a comprehensive commitment to each individual receiving treatment, by all levels of caregivers. This course, utilizing research based strategies, will explore the role of the clinician in influencing adoption and implementation of clinical interventions that should lead to more effective treatment interventions.
